By Austin Echereozo

Reputable youth bodies in Okigwe zone has unanimously resolved  to unite under one formidable political umbrella  geared towards consolidating their stand in supporting credible political aspirants in the forthcoming 2027 general election.

The resolution was cemented  on Sunday March 22,  via Okigwe youth political summit held in Owerri. The summit which was held under the auspices of “Okigwe Youth Bond Alliance ‘ adopted Chief Longers Anyanwu as it’s senatorial candidate and hence backs okigwe zone for 2027 governorship.

In his keynote address, the convener and leader of Okigwe Zone Youth Alliance , Hon Chinagorom Cyriacus emphasized the need for unity of purpose in a bid to address numerous challenges confronting the zone. According to him Okigwe Zone is faced with numerous political challenges which can only be corrected unless the leadership of the zone especially, in the Senate, is entrusted in the hand of a credible and people-oriented leader. However , critical youth stakeholders and bodies in alliance to achieve Okigwe goals in the next elections include Imo Youth Matrix Okigwe Zone, Imo Youth Parliament Okigwe Zone, Okigwe Progressive Change and other student bodies across the zone.

The participants used the opportunity to reflect on the activities of some of their illustrious sons and daughters that has made the zone in their previous political positions and appointments. Special recognition and respect was accorded to the first civilian governor of Imo State, Chief samuel onunaka mbakwe. The youth body noted that Mbakwe’s achievements  as governor were too numerous to mention. Other leaders of the zone such as former Governer Ikedi Ohakim, Chief Tony Chukwu and HRH EZE Oliver Ohanwe, were eulogized for their contributions in the development of Okigwe Zone. The youth body also showered praises on Governor Hope Uzodinma whom they described as a God- sent governor, stating that Governor Uzodinma has done a lot for Okigwe Zone since he came on board as the governor. They pledged their commitment in ensuring that all of the governor’s policies and programmes are supported for a better Imo State and Okigwe Zone.

Some of the resolutions adopted during the summit was made possible through a motion moved by Hon Sixtus Njoku and seconded by Hon  Iyke Anumaka.

Prominents among those resolutions were the formal establishment of a unified youth alliance across Okigwe Zone. The youths maintained they stand on the Chatter of Equity for Okigwe Zone that will give rise to equity and Okigwe Zone’s pride of place in the scheme of things and political arrangement in the state.

In their collective and unanimous decision, the youth body adopted Chief Longers Anyanwu (Ebubedike,) as their preferred candidate for Imo North senatorial zone in the scheduled 2027 general elections. They described him as a go-getter, a seasoned politician, a

kind- hearted man and a servant leader who understands the yearnings of his people They went further to hint that Chief Longers Anyanwu has never disappointed in his previous political outings and appointments in the zone . The youth body urged all sons and daughters of Okigwe Zone both home and in the diaspora to support and throw their weight behind Chief Anyanwu in his quest to bring back the lost glory of Okigwe Zone. They appealed to Governor Uzodinma and other key political actors in the zone to heed to the cry of the youths and give the best to Okigwe zone both in the senate and governorship come 2027.

However, the Okigwe Youth Bond Alliance disclosed without fear of contradiction that the interest of youth alliance remains paramount, and that every other youth body that rises to oppose the decision  at the summit remains inconsequential and illegitimate. They stated that this is the right time for every legitimate Okigwe Zone youth to rise up to the challenges and stop playing transactional politics with Okigwe. Zone. The resolution was made formidable by the endorsement of leaders of the six local governments that make Okigwe Zone which include: Hon Chinagorom Cyriacus from Obowo, Hon Sixtus Njoku from Ehime Mbano, Hon Amara Iwuchukwu from Onuimo, Hon Iyke Anumaka from Isiala Mbano, Comrade Christian Udunna for Okigwe and Hon Uzoma Icheku for Ihitte Uboma.

Hon Nwabueze Odimba was among prominent Okigwe youths that participated in the summit.
